WHAT IS BOTOX?
BOTOX Cosmetic is a purified protein which reduces the activity of the
muscles that cause frown lines and crow's feet wrinkles. BOTOX Cosmetic
is a simple, non-surgical, physician-administered treatment that can temporarily
smooth moderate to severe frown lines. Prior to being indicated for cosmetic
use, Botox has been safely used for medical purposes for decades. Botox
injections for the purpose of relaxing wrinkles around the eyes are approved
by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
HOW DOES BOTOX WORK?
Crows feet and frown lines form over time as the result of natural muscle
activity. BOTOX Cosmetic is injected directly into the muscle to block
the transmission of nerve impulses to the injected muscles thereby temporarily
reducing muscle's capability to flex. Effects of Botox will be felt within
a week after injection and last in most cases up to four months. These
effects are temporary and disappear within three to four months completely.
Botox treatments will not change your physical appearance other then to
relax your muscles in treated areas and smoothen wrinkles in those areas.
You will retain enough range of motion in your facial muscles to display
various emotions. Botox treatments have minimal down time. It takes less
than thirty minutes to administer a Botox injection and you can resume
your normal activities immediately following your treatment.
