TORONTO EYELID SURGERY

OVERVIEW

Eyelid surgery, more properly known as blepharoplasty, is a procedure in which fat and excess skin is removed from the upper and/or lower eyelids. Drooping upper lids and puffy bags below your eyes can make you look tired and older than you may be. These can be corrected with eyelid surgery. Eyelid surgery may be done in conjunction with a face lift or forehead lift to create a more uniform look to the face. Anyone with droopy or baggy eyelids is a good candidate for eyelid surgery in Toronto.

SURGICAL TECHNIQUE

Eyelid surgery incisions will be made in the creases of the upper lids, and below the lashes in the lower lids. The incisions will extend no further than the outer corners of your eyes. Once the incision is made the skin will be separated from fat and muscle below. Sagging skin and muscle will then be removed along with excess fatty tissue. Finally, very fine sutures are used to close the incisions.

FOLLOWING EYELID SURGERY

Immediately after the surgery your eyes will be lubricated and medication will be prescribed to control any temporary pain or discomfort. Full recovery from eyelid surgery may take two to four weeks. In most cases you will be able to resume normal activities within a week to ten days. Eyelid surgery scarring is minimal and will fade away almost completely with time.
