TORONTO BREAST AUGMENTATION RISKS

Breast augmentation, as with any surgical procedure, can have possible risks and complications. I tell my Toronto breast augmentation patients that the best advice for minimizing surgical risk is choosing an experienced plastic surgeon. To ensure your ultimate comfort and safety, all Toronto breast augmentation surgery is performed at my free standing accredited surgical facility. Below is a brief explanation of some possible complications that may arise as a result of having breast augmentation surgery. It is important to note that breast augmentation is one of the safest cosmetic surgery procedures and the possibility of risks occurring is infinitesimal when performed by a qualified plastic surgeon in an accredited surgical facility.

Hematoma
Hematoma is a localized collection of blood. Hematoma can occur as a result of any surgery. In most cases this is a minor complication and is addressed when the excess blood is drained following breast augmentation surgery.

Capsular Contracture
Our body’s natural response to foreign objects such as breast implants is to encapsulate them in scar tissue. Capsular contracture occurs when the scar tissue contracts. Depending on the severity of capsular contracture the breast implant may feel slightly firm to fairly hard. The risk of forming capsular contracture can be decreased by massaging after surgery. In more serious cases the capsule may need to be surgically removed.

Loss of Sensation
Loss of sensation may occur following breast augmentation in the breast or the nipple area. The extent of this side effect varies from patient to patient. For the majority of Toronto breast augmentation patients this loss of sensation is temporary.
