Can breast implants look natural? Our Toronto-based team knows that this is a question many patients have on their mind when they’re thinking about undergoing breast augmentation surgery. One of the biggest misconceptions about breast implants is that they will look unnatural. The truth is that when the right techniques are used, this surgery can produce results that look and feel very natural.
There are two breast implant placements: over the pectoral muscle or under it. When an implant is placed under the muscle, it can create a more gradual slope at the tops of the breasts. This technique is ideal for flatter chested, thin patients who don’t have much natural breast tissue to start with.
Saline implants contain sterile salt water while silicone ones contain a plastic gel. The soft, viscous gel they contain often helps silicone implants to retain their shape better and they may sometimes feel smoother compared to saline implants.
Implants are available in a range of sizes and projections. Patients may be tempted to choose implants that are as large as possible but implants that are very large can sometimes look more fake because they may be disproportionate to your body frame. It’s best to choose a suitable size for your body type. We will need to assess your body type, breast size, skin elasticity, and other factors to determine which size will be best for your implants. Sometimes it may be best to choose a smaller size that can still achieve your goals. On the other hand, implants that are too small may not be enough to complement your existing curves.
Sometimes the best way to optimize the results from breast augmentation is to combine it with complementary procedures such as a breast lift or liposuction. A breast lift will reposition sagging breasts to a higher, more attractive position on the chests and give them a firmer, perkier appearance. Liposuction can reduce resistant fat from other body areas to create a balanced body shape and improve proportions.
